Creating easy DIY pencils for your students

Decorative pencils can get spendy, but they are great rewards for your students. Students love pencils that are fun and exciting. Here are some pencils I created that were very cheap and affordable!

Keep reading to find out how to create these cool pencils!

1. Supplies you will need:

  • Washi tape (I like the scotch brand, but you can find these even at the dollar store!)
  • Plain pencils- I got this pack of 12 for 1 cent at  Office Max, what a deal!
  • Fun eraser tops- got this at the dollar spot at Target after Valentine's Day at it was on sale for 30 cents!
  • Scissors

2. Just apply the tape on to the pencil!
Tip: I like to place the tape like in the picture. I only use 2 long strips and I find it easier to apply. You can also wrap the tape around the pencil and it can make different patterns depending on your tape! (but you have to use more tape)

3. Find fun eraser tops for the pencils! (Cupcakes and robots for the win!)

The great thing about washi tape is that it allows the pencils to get sharpened so easily!

Fun Ideas: As a reward, have the student create their own fun pencil! They get to choose and apply the tape themselves and as a bonus they can even pick out a fun eraser!

There are so many fun patterns and ways you can decorate a regular pencil with washi tape so get creative!
